Welding wire is a kind of metal product. Although the surface of most solid wire and seamless flux-cored wire is copper-plated, the surface of some seam flux-cored wire is also treated with rust prevention (such as chemical blackening). In the welding wire packaging, in addition to using plastic bags, some bags also add a small packet of moisture-proofing agent, and there is a carton package outside, but moisture-proof is still a problem that must be considered in the storage of the welding wire. Because the moisture-absorbed welding wire can increase the diffusible hydrogen content in the deposited metal, produce defects such as pits and pores, and deteriorate the welding process performance and the mechanical properties of the weld metal, which can lead to cracks in the weld. The welding materials are the same. Of course, because the powder in the flux-cored welding wire is very tightly wrapped in the steel strip, the powder has little contact with air, and there is no such thing as moisture-absorbing material in the welding rod. Therefore, compared with the welding rod, it absorbs moisture. The amount is small, but if it is placed in a high temperature and high humidity environment for a long time, in addition to rust on the surface of the welding wire, it will also absorb moisture. With the increase of moisture absorption time and moisture absorption, the amount of diffused hydrogen in the deposited metal gradually increases, which is detrimental to the crack resistance of the weld.
1. Storage requirements for welding wire
①It is required that the original unopened welding wire can be kept in the "factory fresh" state for at least 12 months under the recommended storage conditions. Of course, the maximum storage time depends on the surrounding atmospheric environment (temperature, humidity, etc.). Recommended storage conditions in the warehouse: The room temperature is above 10~15℃ (maximum 40℃), and the maximum relative humidity is 60%.
②The welding wire should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated warehouse. It is not allowed to store it in the open air or in a room with harmful gases and corrosive media (such as SO2, etc.). The room should be kept clean and tidy. When stacking, it is not suitable to be placed directly on the ground. It is best to place it on a shelf or pad not less than 250mm from the ground and the wall to maintain air circulation and prevent moisture.
③Because the welding wire is suitable for many welding methods and the suitable steel grades, the shape and packing state of the welding wire coil are also various. According to the different wire feeders, the shape of the roll can be divided into disk shape, bundle shape and cylindrical shape. Therefore, during transportation, avoid littering to prevent package damage. Once the package is damaged, it may cause the welding wire to absorb moisture and rust.
For the bundled welding wire, it is necessary to prevent the wire frame from being deformed and cannot be loaded into the wire feeder.
For the cylindrical welding wire, do not roll during transportation, and the container cannot be placed down or tilted, so as not to entangle the welding wire in the barrel and hinder use.
